Our children are growing up in a world that is more interconnected and interdependent. Demands for a highly skilled and educated workforce are exploding.
The implications for learning and teaching are clear. Our young people must be prepared to participate in today's rapidly changing economic environment. It is essential that we begin to grow these capacities now, for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow are in our schools today. Now is a particularly opportune time to launch a national conversation about making entrepreneurship education an integral and innovative piece of learning and teaching. (For the full article see www.ascd.org, Changing Students' Lives Through Entrepreneur Education by Gene R. Carter) A21 Academy is ahead of the curve. Entrepreneurship is the core of our program. It is through entrepreneurship that we allow students to discover their passions, develop critical thinking skills, use advanced technologies and develop the ability to handle the real world challenges that may face them. As an adult reflecting on my own educational experiences, I can only wish that I had the opportunities that A21 Academy provides to their students. We can no longer afford not to have our child(ren) at A21 Academy. Our child(ren) are the future leaders of our society. Fit for learning: what the research says about the potential benefit of sports. Matthew Jenkin, September 2013 There is a growing body of evidence to suggest that physical activity actually improves the brain function. Sports/games that are unpredictable and require problem-solving may also boost executive functioning (skills that help the brain organize and act on information) which can transfer to academic tasks. Additionally, physical education can also have a positive impact on student behaviour. PE can also be an opportunity to develop resiliency, independent learning skills, and mental alertness. (www.theguardian.com) That's why at A21 Academy, we incorporate a unique blend of sports and academics. We begin each day with an hour of intense sports instruction (hockey, baseball, basketball, and swimming), followed by daily physical education as mandated by the Ministry of Education, and a wide array of intramural sports during the lunch hour. As a result, we are able to challenge our students with relevant, meaningful inquiry through the lens of entrepreneurship with a high degree of success!
